Budapest

3 years ago - the day after my 18th birthday, I decided to go interrailing around Europe. I packed my rucksack, said cheerio to my friends and family and hopped on a train to Stansted. It was by far the best experience of my life, and I met some fantastic people along the way.

But there is one city that I keep going back to. Budapest was the third stop of my trip, and if it wasn't for my pass limiting me to just 22 days of travel I would have stayed there in a heartbeat. I'm not sure whether its the city itself, the people I meet or the atmosphere of the hostel, but there is something about Budapest that makes it feel like a second home.

I got there just in time for the world-famous Jager-train

260 strong Jagerbombs. The hostel record is around 600. Jeeehheeeeezzzz!

Open Mic then followed on, and there were some very talented people. Unfortunately I don't have any photos of the night, so I shall just leave you to imagine 200 odd people getting on their feet for a brilliant rendition of Bittersweet Symphony by one guy and his guitar.

The next day, we decided to be a bit more cultural. Shaking off our hangovers we went for a walk around the city

Heroes square

Gellert Hill

Parliament

These shoes are a memorial to all the Jewish people who were killed during the Holocaust. They were ordered to take off their shoes before being thrown into the Danube river. Very touching, but eerie.

St Istivan's Basilica

The Basilica is named in honour of St. Stephen - the first king of Hungary. Inside you can find his 'incorruptable' right hand. Yep, you read that right. Go there if you don't believe me!

That night was a Monday. and Monday means Morrisons. (a bar not the supermarket). And Morrisons means cheap cocktails and kareoke.

Happy hour meant that we could get 2 for £3! and boy were they strong!

Out in Budapest I think Monday may be my favourite day of the week...
