The Ashes: Trent Bridge

Our family LOVE cricket. We've never been into football, but follow rugby and cricket religously. We were lucky enough to go to Australia 2 years ago to watch the ashes, and oh boy was it a good series! This year, expectations are even higher and we went down to Trent Bridge in Nottingham to watch the third day of the test.

It started off, as most British sporting events do, as a rather civilised affair. The spectators were happily chatting away, enojoying the sunshine with a few mid-morning Pimms. As Ian Bell came on early in the afternoon, the crowd was definitely getting merrier.

And too right! By the end of the day, Bell was still batting, with an incredible 98 runs! Not even the new superstar bowler, Ashton Agar could knock him out!

But the day also proved controversial in some other ways. To anyone who is unfamiliar to the rules of cricket, a team are allowed a maximum of 2 reviews - where they can challenge the Umpire's decision as to whether the player should be 'out'. By the looks of it, Broad hit the ball on the edge of his bat before getting caught by the Aussie fielder Michael Clarke. Knowing that the Umpires initial decision could not be challenged by the Aussies, Broad stayed on the pitch, much to the Aussies disbelief. You can watch the clip here - see what you make of it!

Aside from that little blip, England played very well. Bell finished the day on 98 runs, with Broad still in. The atmosphere was getting as wild as a cricket match can get, with plenty of singing and heckles to the Aussies. We headed back to my sister's place, and had a very scenic walk along the canal.

What a beautiful day!

Poptarts

Yesterday I went to visit some of my friends up in Sheffield for the end of uni celebrations.

Poptarts is in my opinion, one of the best student nights out. The club night is known for it's 90s cheesey pop (think s club 7 and the spice girls), although they play a bit of everything - from The Prodigy to The Human League. Adding in the fact that it was the last one of the year, it was a BIG night.

I'm not really a fan of 'cool' clubs, call me old fashioned but I like a good singalong to some nostalgic tunes. I can handle the odd dubsteb track, but could not hack a whole night of it! Student nights are known for their, erm lack of dignity, but I really think nowhere parties as hard as the students of Sheffield!

When the music stopped (finishing up appropriately with Take That - Never Forget), we were in no hurry to head home. Where do you go in sheffield when everywhere has closed?

BALTI KING.

''The most popular restaurant in Sheffield''

I'm not sure where they got that evidence from, but Balti King is one of my favourite places in the steel city. An indian restaurant open all through the night which serves over 50 different types of curries for less than a tenner? WHAT A GREAT IDEA! Stay classy, Sheffield.

We planned to visit the Peak District the following day, but due to the hangovers some of my friends were experiencing, we sacked that off and went for a late lunch in the pub. By the time I got home at 7, I was rather happy to see waiting for me on the table.

A great night out with some great people, congrats to everyone who is graduating!
